Productions

The TJTA extracurricular program includes a variety of opportunities to work on shows as an actor and/or a technician. Participating in the after school program is an exciting way to showcase the skills learned in the curricular courses, however these opportunities are open to all TJ students - no previous experience is necessary!

Actors are cast through auditions for each production.
Students may apply to be designers for set, costumes, lights, sound, hair/make-up, and publicity.
Interest meetings for productions are announced via the TJTA Now Facebook.

Mainstage

The rehearsal process for mainstage productions typically begins about 10-12 weeks before the show dates and are performed at least four times. Actors can expect to rehearse 3-4 times a week with additional rehearsals during tech week before we open. Additionally, one of our mainstage productions will be eligible to be nominated for Cappies awards at the end of the year. Mainstage shows may include musicals, and classical or contemporary full-length plays.

Virginia High School League

The Virginia High School League (VHSL) provides a competition for high school theater programs throughout the state. VHSL performances are one-act plays with a smaller cast, and are performed in the winter for a panel of judges.

Our VHSL productions are part of the Theatre Arts class. Student interested in performing in the VHSL competition must be enrolled in Theatre Arts 1-4. VHSL productions will have the chance to advance from Districts to the Regional and State competition. Rehearsals for our VHSL production take place in the Theatre Arts class.
